Mhonbeni K Ezung secured the gold medal in Economics with a CGPA of 6.87 in the recently declared UG Final Semester Examination 2020 held under Nagaland University. Get to know her in this exclusive interview:
Economics is important in many areas of society. It helps improve living standards, as economics is concerned with optimal distribution of resources in society, we get to know how societies, governments, businesses and individuals allocate their scarce resources. It helps in identifying the policy measures that encourages prosperity and help the society to grow sustainably.
It was not easy because it was a first time experience and also because of poor network connectivity, I even missed few topics/classes. Though there were some problems it did not affect my academy or mental health negativity in any manner. The topics I missed, I made use of all the available sources like YouTube, Google, textbooks, etc. to cope up.
To become successful in life, discipline is compulsory. This year due to coronavirus there was a hung change in our academic calendar and we got more than 5 months to prepare for our examination. During this time I maintained at least 1 hour of study hour everyday with full concentration. Time or hours don’t matter, if you do it with full concentration and maintain that everyday even 1 hour is enough. Maintain daily routine and do everything with total concentration and success will come to you.
Since my dream is to become a civil servant, I’ll be taking coaching for competitive exams.
I have learned so many things during my three year stay at Tetso, I learned to be self-disciplined, to always strive for excellence, to prioritize the things I love, to create a positive impact to the world, and the importance of taking responsibilities in life.
I will miss PowWow because it is an event hosted by our very own college and we get many platforms to show our talents.
My daddy, who always loves and supports me and who always sacrifices everything for me to achieve my goals and dreams. I look up to him and push myself.

My advice would be stay focused, aim high and make your parents proud by doing your best in everything you do. It is not the score that matters if you do your best, expand your comfort zone and achieve what you desire.
And lastly I want to express my sincere gratitude to all my Tetso family for the motivation and positive words, for the love and support. Your guidance and prayers made me who I am today. Thank you Tetso family for everything!

When the results came out and they heard that I got the gold medal in Sociology, they were very delighted and at the same time they were shocked. But they also had their expectations based on my performance in the past semesters.
No. I always did my best in all the semesters because I had the desire to be a topper at least once in life. I believe there were better students than me though I was doubtful, I’m grateful and thankful that I was able to fulfil this goal.
Well, I referred to previous years’ question papers and started preparing my own notes with the help of friends and teachers, not forgetting the books from our College Library; a month ahead of the examinations. I won’t say that I studied for 6 – 12 hours a day but I tried to motivate myself to study for 2 hours with much concentration and focus. And that is what I believe has brought me here today.
Firstly, it is because of the grace of God that I was able to reach this height, His love and guidance has been my greatest strength throughout my life. Secondly, I give credit to my family, teachers, friends and well-wishers for their endless support.
My parents have been my greatest inspiration since childhood. The way they brought me up has greatly inspired me in becoming who I am today.
My biggest aim is to make my parents proud, and make them live a comfortable life as they have sacrificed so much for me. By becoming someone influential, I want to repay my parents and let them achieve their dreams in the coming future.
I think the biggest problem in our society today is inequality. We may not see inequality openly in our State but it exists one way or another. So, in order to do away with this problem, the best solution would be changing our mindset in all spheres of life, that men are not always superior but rather they should depend on one another because there are things only men can do and there are things only women can do. So let’s embrace this mentality and let’s keep ‘Striving for Excellence’.
I release my stress by talking with my family and friends, by gardening and listening to music.
I am planning to pursue Masters in Sociology at Nagaland University, Lumami Campus.
It’s not about the marks that matters, it’s the knowledge that you gain and collect over the years that you apply into your daily life. Don’t only work hard but work smart and don’t only study hard, study smart. It’s not about studying for hours in a day but it’s about utilizing your time wisely and giving your best in all circumstances.
Work for a cause, not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress.

I’m very happy and grateful to my family and my teachers for the help, motivation, encouragement, prayers and their untiring arms of support because without them I never would have made it. Above all I thank God for everything.
Managing my studies and extra-curricular activities wasn’t very challenging but because I tend to procrastinate things that I’m not really interested in, I would set a deadline for myself and try to complete the task within that stipulated time frame.
Nothing much, I collected study materials, old question papers and of course started studying.
My parents have been very supportive physically, emotionally and financially. Even my teachers were always ready to clarify my doubts and encouraged me to work hard. It is because of their unceasing support that made me believe in hardwork and give my best.
Yes, I was stressed out but my family’s continuous prayer support and positivity boosted me mentally and emotionally.
To ease my mind after long hours of study, I prayed, took a walk around the house or listened to music.
I used the simplest method that I believe everyone uses. I would highlight the texts or lines that I feel are important and also note them down in a piece of paper or notebook. Also, I prepared diagrams and charts for easy understanding.
They were very happy and encouraged me to continue to work hard and strive for more.
My plan is to make good use of the present and be happy with the outcome though at times I may fail to reach the expectation.
