Dear Tetso College

Thinking beyond Nagaland, August-October 2023

Dear Commerce & Management Department,

When the commerce and management program initially began in Nagaland, we did not have any MNCs or any large businesses to speak of. Even tasting KFC or pizza was something we had to go abroad for. Regular broadband internet, cell phones, and LED TVs were beyond the reach of many.

Today, I see a vastly different picture. India is not just forging ahead; it is taking the lead in many areas.

  • India is growing in influence on the world stage, and its vibrant market is being noticed globally.
  • India has achieved many successes this year, including the passage of the 128th Constitution Amendment Bill, providing 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
  • India played a commanding role in pulling off a consensus declaration as host of the world’s highest profile global economic assembly – the G20.

The future of India is bright. The country is expected to become the third-largest economy in the world by 2027.

  • Economic growth: India is expected to grow at an average rate of 7% per year over the next decade. This growth will be driven by a number of factors, including a growing domestic market, rising investment levels, and increasing exports.
  • Urbanization: India is rapidly urbanizing, and its cities are becoming increasingly important to the economy. By 2030, more than half of India’s population is expected to live in urban areas. This will create new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike.
  • Digital transformation: India is at the forefront of the digital revolution. The country has over 1.2 billion mobile phone subscribers, and internet usage is growing rapidly. This is creating new opportunities for businesses to reach consumers and for individuals to access information and services.
  • Demographic shift: India has a young and growing population. By 2030, India’s median age will be 29 years, compared to 38 years in China and 39 years in the United States. This will create a large and growing workforce, and will also boost domestic consumption.

Of course, there are also some challenges that India needs to address in order to achieve its full potential. These include poverty, inequality, and corruption.

It is time for our commerce and management department to think beyond Nagaland when we talk about business. The dream has to be to have brands from Nagaland make a national mark and eventually go international.

What can we do to make this dream a reality?

  • We need to provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the global economy. This includes teaching them about the latest trends and technologies, as well as developing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • We need to create opportunities for our students to gain international experience. This could include internships, study abroad programs, or exchanges with foreign universities.
  • We need to build partnerships with businesses and organizations around the world. This will help our students to network with potential employers and to learn about the latest business practices.

I believe that our commerce and management department has the potential to play a major role in
the development of Nagaland and of India. By working together, we can make our dream a reality.

Sincerely,

Dear Tetso family,

As we gear up to start classes for the new Academic year 2020, we as members of the Tetso Family must be grateful for many things in spite of Covid 19 pandemic. We are happy that we have been able to strengthen our online system which we believe is one of the most advanced in our region if not the country. More features will be added in the coming days as we transition to a more robust digital system.

Life will go on. I do believe that our capability at Tetso College to “hope” and “be positive” is a key defining characteristic that pushes us to overcome challenges, adapt to change, survive and eventually thrive in any environment.

Our lives have been affected in ways no one could have predicted. We can react to this in two ways.

  1. We can either pine over the things we are not able to do anymore.
  2. We can focus on all the things that we can still do.

We can still communicate and interact and share our ideas, dreams and lives. We are still able to speak to our loved ones. We are still able to learn. We can still sing and dance and share our poems, writings and communicate with the rest of the world.

Let us remember that difficulties and even good times are both only temporary. Life is about learning to deal with both situations.

  • If you were able to take admission here at Tetso College then congratulations, there are many who found the online process too difficult, gave up and took admission in the closest institute
  • If you are able to attend online classes, be grateful because there are millions of students around the world who do not even have access to these facilities.
  • If you have a job, then be grateful because jobs are going to become scarce and the economy is suffering

There is an enormous responsibility placed upon each of us now. You are now responsible for your own learning. Your teacher cannot keep coming to your desks to see if you are paying attention or not. Nor will anyone be able check if you read your assignments or are paying attention when your camera is off.

There is a huge responsibility on all of you to empower yourself to be able to create a positive impact in the world. But before you can change the world, you first need to prove that you can change yourself. The person you are today will not be the same person who graduates from Tetso College tomorrow. But it is how you use your time in the coming days that will define who you are when the time comes for you to lead society and our world.

I wish all of you good luck and hope that you will strive to be the best you can be.

Strive for excellence. Dream. Think. Do.

Best Regards,

Dear Tetso Family,

We know that this is a very tough time for many of you. We have had to cope with unexpected changes to life and our classes. During this period of uncertainty, it is especially important to stay connected with your friends, family and loved ones. Your mental health and well being is extremely important in dealing with the extended lockdown and social isolation.

Remember, our college counsellors are around for any help and guidance. Let’s stop the stigma. Let’s be ourselves and allow others to be themselves without ridiculing anyone for wanting to talk to a counsellor. Know that there is nothing wrong in that. The primary reason we are here at Tetso is to create a positive impact in society by empowering people towards life-long excellence. Let’s continue to do that. With Covid-19 disrupting the entire world, our familiar patterns and routines will need to change. However, we will continue to provide the support and the tools to all our current students to attain the achievements that they deserve, like any other top
student around the world.

Strive for Excellence

Greetings Tetso Family!

We are pleased to begin the monthly Tetso newsletter 3T- Tetso Today and Tomorrow. With this fi rst edition and the forthcoming editions, we seek to communicate better and also provide a platform to keep everyone posted on what the people of Tetso have been upto.

Tetso College is a hive of activity and positive energy. There is always so much happening in the college that it’s almost impossible to keep track of everything! Based on the numerous achievements of the past year, it’s obvious that everyone from sta and students are doing amazingly well. However, achievements, as we all know, are nothing unless they actually result in something further.I strongly believe that all of our sta and students are second to none, and are capable of so much more. It is pointless to be a topper or at the top if we aren’t using what we know to move beyond ourselves alone. For that, it is our hope that every one of you will use your ability to fulfill our college vision to create a positive impact in the world.

Strive for Excellence!

Principal’s Message

There is in this world, no such force as the force of a person determined to rise. The human soul cannot be permanently chained. – W.E.B Du Bois.

Dear Tetso College Community,

We warmly welcomed the Freshers of the HS, UG and PG Levels on 26th August 2022 with our Respected Chief Guest, Dr. S.C. Jamir who addressed us on important issues surrounding our Naga society.

He emphasised on two important points – i) the need to remove the toxic negativity and negative criticism over positive reinforcement and outlook ii) the importance of being global citizens to adapt and progress with the changes we are witnessing around the rest of the world. These I feel are two important points that we need to constantly remind ourselves about.

This year we have welcomed more than 700 students from across the various programmes and courses on offer. We have students from different boards, that include NBSE, CBSE, MBOSE, ICSE and more. We also have a diverse profile of students representing every district in Nagaland and different parts of Northeast – Arunachal, Manipur, Mizoram and beyond.

By joining Tetso College, you are joining a community of 2000 plus students. You are also joining a community of dreamers, thinkers and most importantly doers. Whatever reason you had for joining us, it is our firm belief that you are all meant to be here.

We have started off this semester on 5th of July for the UG 1st Sem, 18th June for the Class 11 and 25th August for the MA 1st Sem and already we have witnessed a host of activities by Departments and Clubs. Recently, we completed the selection of 4 students who will be representing Tetso College at the 2022 International Leading Together event in Chennai in September, which is a joint collaboration with the University of Melbourne and 4 leading institutes in India. Gilgal Ikror Horam from BA 1st semester Education Hons is representing the Freshers and we could not be more proud to have such a fresh entrant already getting involved and active within the student community. The others are Kezhavikho Lhoushe, B.A. 5th Sem Political Science Hons, Yimtiyong Longkumer, B.A. 3rd Sem History Hons and Ahyule Keppen, B.A. 3rd Sem Political Science Hons.

There are many more opportunities coming up and I hope to see more of you participate and get involved. We cannot wait to see how much more talent all of you have to show us.

In September we will also be hosting students from M.L. Dahanukar College, Mumbai on a student exchange programme, while our students will be visiting them in October. We are also aware that we had many student sport players representing their respective districts at the Nagaland Olympics. Some of you came back with medals too. Congratulations to all those who participated and the winners of the Li-Ning 44th Nagaland Inter-District and State Open Badminton Championship held at Longleng District from 22nd- 27th August 2022:

Peramrisi Zeilang, B.A. 5th Sem (Pol Sc Honours) won Gold in Men’s Doubles and Bronze in Men’s single categories.

Atoka Tsuqu, BA 1st Sem, History Honours and Tokito Yeptho, BA 1st Sem, Pol Sc Honours won silver in the U-17 Boys Doubles Category.

We are truly proud of our Tetso student community and the great people we believe you will all become. Keep dreaming, thinking and doing, and always remember that together our mission is to empower people towards lifelong excellence and together it is our vision is to create a positive impact in this world.

Message

Dear Tetso family,

We hope all of you are safe and healthy during this period. To all our new students of Class 11 and 1st Semester: we warmly welcome you into the Tetso Family.

The Covid-19 pandemic has created delays in the opening of institutions in Nagaland. This affects Tetso College’s reopening as well. However, kindly note that you will be notified on time about the commencement of the New Academic Session. Meanwhile, we are currently preparing for both an online and offline learning system that will meet the needs of all Tetso learners. This would encompass both synchronous and asynchronous learning.

In order to assess which students are capable of attending online classes and those who might not be able to attend due to network issues, we request all students to fill up the survey that has been emailed to your College account. (bit.ly/tetsosurvey0620)

Separate learning methodologies may be used for the two groups so please answer all the questions in the survey diligently.

We look forward to welcoming you soon to the New Academic Session 2020.

In case any of you are facing any problems please reach out to us by emailing helpdesk@tetsocollege.org or call our whatsapp helpline: 70059 98070.

Thank you.

Vice Principal’s Message

First, I would like to thank and congratulate the Tetso family for living up to our vision to create a positive impact in our society as all of you were able to shift expertly into e-learning after the Covid-19 shutdown. Transitioning seamlessly into the virtual world puts all of you in the same league as anyone else from the developed world and is surely a sign of greater responsibilities towards our community.

The Tetso family has an important role to play in spreading correct information, while also adhering to the Covid-19 safety precautions. As Tetso students please do your bit by continuing the practice of social distancing with seriousness, and also stay positive.

If some of you would like to share your suggestions on what we can do further or have stories from your community then please share by writing to us at contact@tetsocollege.org. A dose of positivity is always encouraging to hear about the community coming together in times like these.

To the UG 6th semester students: We heard that some of you are feeling sentimental about the conclusion of your classes on this note. You are the first 6th Semester batch to experience the Virtual Class, and we hope you take back positive memories and important learnings of the three years of College life with you. We thank you for the enthusiasm with which you have taken this up and we have enjoyed teaching each of you.

As the PG and Class 12 Virtual Classes continue, we hope all of you utilise the moments of online social interaction and learning effectively. Meanwhile, we will continue to strive to ensure your education carries on with as few disruptions as possible.

Finally, the month of February saw a host of activities by Departments, Clubs and Units. Take a moment to look back on all those wonderful memories you have created.

Best Wishes,

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER

TETSO MEANS TOP IN RENGMA. The Rengmas are a Naga Tribe in Nagaland. Therefore, Tetso is Naga. The Foundation Day of Tetso College, ie. 14th June 1994 is still fresh in my mind. Those of you who were associated with Tetso College twenty years ago will remember its humble beginning. Tetso College has progressed rapidly since then for which we praise God for His many blessings. This year, I would like to announce that our scholarship programme Tetso College CRBC Merit Scholarship programme was officially launched and we have two recipients who are top students and in whom we have enormous hope. The Scholarship covers the entire Degree or Higher Secondary Course amounting upto Rs 1,50,000/- each. For those students who are appearing in their class 10 and Degree exams, this years’ scholarship forms will be out soon after the declaration of the final exam results. Apart from the above mentioned scholarship, Tetso College also provided a one-time grant and support to a few deserving students.

  1. Two class toppers of both Arts & Commerce – Rs 5000/- each
  2. Three distinction holders of both Arts & Commerce – Rs 3000/- each
  3. Six 1st Division students of both Arts & Commerce – Rs 2000/- each

We hope to continue to help more students through God’s blessings. As we head into another year we humbly pray for God’s guidance in our upcoming plans. We are currently in the process of completing one of the largest stadiums in Nagaland, we have recently begun the Economics Honours program and have also begun computerising our communication process with stakeholders. Please continue to uphold the college in your prayers.

Excellence

Everyone at Tetso College is important – students, faculty, staff and alumni. They are the only measure of true excellence. “Excellence is About People”

It has been an amazing 2013. The number of activities we held was numerous and quality of the events seemed to be at its zenith. The college result has been exceptional as usual. Our Degree level courses have always been strong and continue to do well. Our English department took in a record 60 honours students in 2013 (its highest ever). This is exceptionally high for an honours course in Nagaland when the normal honours intake is less than 20. I would specially like to congratulate the Commerce department’s achievements in the 2013 HSSLC examination where the college stood 1st among all colleges offering commerce in Nagaland in terms of pass percentage. We are also pleased to announce that we are continuing The Tetso Excellence Scholarship which provides free education to any NBSE, HSLC or HSSLC Top 20 Rank holder who is a part of, or joins the Tetso family. We look forward to accommodating more outstanding students this year.

Excellence Is About People

At Tetso, our mission to educate, train and develop professionally competent individuals who are committed towards lifelong excellence is brought about through the efforts of both our staff, students, alumni and the community. I believe we have been able to make this a reality working along with great dedicated achievers. Our teaching faculty are the force behind the tireless support and encouragement given to our students so that they learn to excel.

Each year, we learn to improve and along with our students we have grown stronger as a College community – building from our mistakes and forging ahead with our ideas. I am proud to present the significant achievements of some of our teaching faculty. Not only do they do an outstanding job in the classroom, but their accomplishments and hard work in the past leave us in no doubt that our young children are in safe hands.

Strive for excellence

Tetso has been blessed with a wonderful group of teachers, staff and students. Once again, at the end of another successful year, we are thankful for the hard work, the long hours and the dedicated commitment each and every one of you have put in. I am positive I speak for one and all when I say that the accomplishments of the year have surpassed our expectations, only to reinforce our determination to aim for higher and greater goals again in the coming year.

Teachers, throughout the tremendous load of responsibilities we’ve thrown at you this year, we know we have had your commitment and support. Along with your zeal and passion for teaching, your tireless efforts towards building the solidarity of the College have helped put our mission and vision into perspective. We are happy to have you with us. Students, we’re proud to notice a new spirit of sincerity and passion for learning amongst you. The integrity and discipline you’ve shown is promising and we believe you can achieve great things. By now, you must completely agree that no success comes without hard work. Keep this up and we will all be celebrating greater laurels in the coming years!

The progress we’ve all made together till now is defi nitely a reminder that our potentials have not been exhausted. This year we’ve inaugurated our new tech square building with its integrated library and computer laboratory, kicked off our NCC women’s army wing, audio visualized classrooms and set up media facilities in our new conference room. Our students have the benefit of NIIT certification right on campus at a concessional rate and processes like the biometric attendance and computerisation of our office and library is going on in full swing. In the coming year, we will be taking a big leap forward and hopefully have NAAC accreditation in 2012. We’re aiming high and trudging on ambitiously. Let us all continue to work together always staying focussed and committed to striving for excellence.
