SPOTLIGHT – Dr. Eastrose Miachieo, Assistant Professor, Department of History

3T: Kindly introduce yourself and tell us how it was like growing up.

Eastrose: Myself, Dr. Eastrose Miachieo, everyone calls me Rose. I am currently an Assistant Professor at Tetso College, Department of History (Dept. Coordinator as well).

I was born and brought up in Kohima- Nagaland. I grew up in a Christian Baptist- Revival family. From high school the importances of Scriptures was taught as a subject. Followed by higher secondary and college life all within Kohima town, where I grew up from being a disciplined, obedient and dutiful daughter and a student. I took my Honors paper i.e History subject very seriously. I was very competitive back in college days where I remember instances of me writing down marks and targets of the highest student scorer, just to make sure that I score more than them, that was me being a typical teenager.

And moving on to my next phase of life i.e. my first time outside Nagaland was a roller coaster ride. University life was the best, it taught me to be a better person.

3T: What is a typical day like in your life?

Eastrose: My typical day starts first with a prayer, thanking God for adding  one more beautiful day into my life and my families. Then I drink a glass of water, play some music in the background, get ready for my breakfast, tiffin, dress–up and abone for classes.  I personally try to find happiness in the small things of life, a smile, a hello, a goodmorning even if I am the first one to wish my student or colleagues it gives me a sort of satisfaction. That’s my typical day.

3T: What are your must-have smartphone apps?

Eastrose: Twitter, Kredily, Amazon, Merriam Webster, MakeMyTrip, My Period Tracker App, Aldiko and Spotify.

3T: Everybody has good and bad days. As a teacher, how do you motivate yourself on bad days to impart knowledge to your students without fail?

Eastrose: I try to be rational as well as emotional (as I too was a college student once) depending on the situation. I personally feel that scolding, shouting does not work in the contemporary education system. Students could be made to understand the pros and cons of knowledge and learning. Education should not only be in theory rather it should be  applicable in our day to day life.

3T: In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll, even for a day and why?

Eastrose: I would like to enroll in Sir Talinungsang’s (Department of Computer Science) class. Because he has a positive vibe and also I would like to learn more about Computer Science utility as it is a vogue.

3T: Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?

Eastrose: “Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most” – Buddha.

3T: What book are you reading at the moment?

Eastrose: Forgotten Civilizations by Rupa Gupta & Gautam Gupta.

3T: Can you tell us your hobbies? What is one of your hidden talents?

Eastrose: Reading, Cooking, Traveling, and Tailoring.

I assume myself to be the dark horse, don’t know whether it is a hidden talent.

3T: Would you rather go back in the past to undo an action you regret or go to the future to see what the future holds?

Eastrose: Back  in the past during my course in PhD, consecutively for 3 years I did not visit home. I regret missing the Christmas celebrations with my family, I would undo that action.

3T: Who inspires you the most and why?

Eastrose: My Mother inspires me the most as she is a classy, strong and God-fearing woman.  I take inspiration from her, as she was a freedom fighter. Her life’s journey and hurdles inspire me to keep my head high and persistent in life.

3T: What’s the one thing people do not know about you?

Eastrose: That I am not fond of dogs rather I am a cat person.

3T: Having been a student yourself, is there any mistake that you committed as a student that you don’t want your students to make?

Eastrose: The mistake that I committed as a student was not having much group study, which could have been helpful.

3T: Among the people you’ve worked with, who do you admire and why?

Eastrose: I admire the IT Team because they work instantly on time, they are professional in their work and mostly they are patient. They are elite in the social media world, Tetso college is known all over India and abroad due to the people working behind the scenes and i.e. IT Team. For the IT Team, their work dedication is intense, they work irrespective of time and day. I learn from them the zeal of work dedication, and mostly patience as mentioned.

3T: Describe Tetso College in 3 words.

Eastrose: THE BEST COLLEGE!
