National Commission for Women (NCW):

The National Commission for Women was set up as statutory body in January 1992

under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 (Act No. 20 of 1990 of Govt.of India) to: Review the Constitutional and Legal safeguards for women; Recommend remedial legislative measures; Facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women. It organized workshops/consultations, constituted expert committees on economic empowerment of women, conducted workshops/seminars for gender awareness and took up publicity campaigns against female foeticide, violence against women etc., in order to generate awareness in the society against these social evils.

About Tetso College:

Tetso College, established in 1994, is a Nagaland University (NU) affiliated college and NAAC accredited. It is a multi-campus College with Sovima Campus as the headquarter situated in Sovima Village, Dimapur, Nagaland. The other campuses are Unity Campus (in Unity Village), City Campus (in Notun Bosti) and Tenyiphe Campus. The College offers courses under the Bachelor’s degree programme, the courses offered are English, Linguistics, Political Science, Economics, History, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Journalism & Mass Communication, B.Com, BBA, BCA, B.S.W, Music and Post-graduate courses in English and Political Science. 

The college further runs a few professional courses under ALS UPSC Coaching, Clef Note Music Academy, and IIHT. The word ‘Tetso’ has been derived from the indigenous Rengma Naga language, meaning ‘Top’. Incorporating that principle along with the motto of the college; ‘Strive for Excellence’, the college takes priority in ensuring the students an effective educational foundation. The college aims to equip students intellectually and morally so that they can act as catalysts to society’s development. Keeping in mind the aims and objectives of Tetso College, the PG Department strives to coalesce the ideals and bring them to reality. Through the years, with sheer determination and combined efforts, the department has published academic and creative books and held literary fests. It aspires to create a positive impact in the world while being a powerhouse of research and academic pursuits.

About the Seminar:

The seminar aims to create awareness amongst different stakeholders by highlighting unique requirements of the overall issues, concerns and challenges faced by women in navigating AI opportunities in different professions. The field of artificial intelligence (AI) presents immense potential for transforming society in numerous ways. By embracing AI, women gain the ability to actively contribute to shaping the trajectory of technological advancement. This fosters diversity and inclusivity within the tech industry, ensuring that AI development reflects the needs and viewpoints of all individuals. Equipping women with AI knowledge creates a more equitable landscape, enabling them to compete on equal footing. Equipping women with AI knowledge creates a more equitable playing field, essential for progress. It’s vital to delve into historical contexts, address present obstacles, and anticipate future trends to empower women in AI.

The basic objective of this seminar is to  bridge the knowledge gap, empower women to participate meaningfully in the AI revolution, offering accessible resources and comprehensive information. The seminar will equip women with a solid understanding of AI fundamentals, its diverse applications, and its far-reaching societal implications. It aims to create awareness and usage of the AI powered applications and tools in workspace and as well as home space in an efficient manner. The seminar will also determine deconstructing with the goal of convening diverse stakeholders from various regions and create platforms for acknowledging opportunities and threats associated with AI utilization.

Expected outcome from the Sessions:

  1. Bring awareness amongst different stakeholders by highlighting unique requirements of the overall issues, concerns and challenges faced by women in navigating AI opportunities in different professions.
  2. Identifying the gaps and making concrete suggestions (based on the above objectives and thematic sessions) where the Commission and other concerned authorities/officials can intervene. 
  3. Creating  the potential to catalyze positive change by empowering women, fostering skill development and networking, advocating for policy reforms, building supportive communities, and inspiring future generations of women in technology.
