I recall my friendship with him as a student and officer spanning many memorable years with fond memories. He was a very faithful friend. He was a self-made person with strong determination.

I knew him when he came to Delhi for MA way back in 1974. After that he went to JNU for M. Phil where I joined him again for M. Phil. From there we parted as I left for IPS and he continued there.

It was during our college days; he first shared his desire to set up a school/ college and educate our people. He shared it with me but we had problems because of finance and land.

We met again in Shillong where I was posted there as Assistant Supdt of Police and he was teaching in NEHU with his very young wife and baby (Kvulo). I had meals with him on numerous occasions at Shillong when I was a bachelor. He and his young wife were very warm, hospitable and welcoming always. From there he left for USA while I was undergoing subdivision/district training, postings etc. On his return from USA, he had solved that issue and purchased land and developed it into what it is today, Tetso College.

We were able to catch up again in 2012 in Nagaland while I was DGP Nagaland in 2012 and he, a very well-established educationist, social activist and proud proprietor and Principal of Tetso College.

We will miss him badly but we must celebrate his achievements and successful life story. He left too early.  I wasn’t able to spend more time with him though I continually sent messages to him for his critical review on many critical issues.

His wife was very young and innocent girl when she married. Lorin was much older but very affectionate, patient and kind-hearted man. I’m sure they had a happy life together.

She was very shy when she was in Shillong but she bloomed fully after returning from USA and her full qualities were visible everywhere in and around her compound and rearing her children. A very compatible match. They supplement each other well.

I wish they had lived together longer so that others can learn how a happy couple can live together without quarrel or fighting over petty matters. They have got lovely and well-groomed children and hopefully, they will comfort their mother in the absence of her best friend and husband. Nothing is perfect in this world or lasts forever. We must make ourselves happy in whatever conditions we are in.

Lorin was a gentleman by nature and he could get along with anybody.  It took time to convince him but once convinced, he would stand by you. I experienced this as I grew up with him fighting together against the Shillong Accord, Human Rights violations etc in Delhi in 1974-75. He would hardly raise his voice even if he disagreed but would remain adamant. We used to share meals together and spend whole nights joking or talking ceaselessly about everything under the sun.  Those were the days that left an indelible imprint upon us and we used to recall those memories till today. He was a man of very stable character, never cunning but very frank and straightforward but never rude or arrogant. You could be sure he wouldn’t ditch or backbite against you or cheat you.

He wasn’t greedy or corrupt or after money but a very industrious person with integrity intact while dealing with all the devils in our Naga society without getting himself embroiled in their nefarious activities. He was serious and patient with all his friends.

It will be difficult to find another man like him from among the Nagas today.

My association with the late Dr. P. S. Lorin dates back to over four decades long.
Over the years, as close family friends, we have shared many wonderful memories of togetherness.

I still vividly remember the time when I had to travel from Hissar, Haryana to New Delhi for a Naga Students in North India meeting. We had been communicating through letters prior to it and he would always insist on staying with him if I ever came to Delhi. So, when the opportunity arose, I very gladly accepted his invitation and went straight to Dr. Lorin at Jawahar Lal Nehru University, where he was pursuing his MPhil. He welcomed me with open arms and most graciously offered me a place to stay. We spent three memorable days together talking about our future professional plans and even our future wives.
Thereafter, I visited him again in Shillong where I met his lovely wife and his baby boy.

Ever since I was inducted into the Indian Forest Service, my service took me out of Nagaland for over three decades; only to return home permanently post retirement.

Once back home, we rekindled our close friendship over weekly visits, outings together and breaking bread together. He was my closest friend and confidante. Dr. Lorin and I always did enjoy many a good laugh each time we were together. And, I must say that the last two and a half years of my post retirement life in the company of Dr. & Mrs. Lorin have always been most delightful for me and my wife.

I have seen the journey of his unprecedented work unfold in front of my very eyes. From the humble beginnings of kuchha enclosures around the campus to the grand infrastructure it is today. Tetso College is what it is this day because of the visionary in him. The dream that he dared to dream was only made possible out of sheer hard work and a relentless determined spirit. It’s been truly fascinating to watch him integrate this entire foresight into a reality.
I will forever be proud of his achievements as a visionary, a scholar and a leader;
Even more so, as a devoted husband, a doting father and a loyal friend.
Therefore, it is with a heavy heart, that, I bid farewell to my beloved friend. You are gone from our sight but never from our hearts. You are truly missed.
May your legacy live on, for as long as the sun shall rise.”

Please accept my deepest sympathy. Although it is still difficult to accept that he is no longer with us but I do hope that you can take comfort in the fact that he is now in the arms of our almighty God.
Even during his final days in the hospital your dad displayed and optimism and courage that I have rarely seen. Not even once did he complained to us about his increasing frailty and the severe pain that he was going through. May God continue to watch over you and continue to use you and your family to change peoples lives and bear much fruit in the future. Praying for you and your family.

Dear Dr. Lorin’s wife and children:

My wife Margaret and I are indeed saddened by brother Lorin’s passing. We have been asking the Lord to spare his life for the sake of our people. We don’t know why the Lord answered the prayers of his wife, children and friends like us in a way contrary to our expectation. But because He is God Who knows what’s best for him, we His children must ask His grace to enable us to accept His will.  My wife and I know what cancer is. Our eldest son is a twice-cancer survivor; he is still recovering from bone-marrow transplant.

Dr. Lorin was a  humble and gentle Christian scholar deeply committed to providing quality higher education.  Tetso College is a living monument to  his service to the Nagas. May the gracious God remember his inspiring legacy  by continuing His guidance in the lives of those in his family and others in their future labor to keep Tetso College a leading institution of higher learning in Nagaland and beyond.

Be assured of our sincere prayer as you all continue mourning over the loss of husband and father.

We grieve the sad demise of Dr PS Lorin. He was particularly close to us being the first Principal of Alder College. Lt Dr Lorin was a fine gentleman, a dedicated educationist and a good friend. May his soul rest in peace and may the good Lord grant serenity and strenght to his bereaved family.

It is beyond words to express the loss of our dear Principal Emeritus. Indeed, I am deeply painful at the loss of a great person like him. He has been a great inspiration for me and I thank God for sending him into our lives. B. A 6th semester

I am very sadden to hear the news about our former Principal emeritus and founder, Dr. P. S Lorin demise.
We as a student has lost someone great, a pioneer to education field and an inspirational being. A contributor to our education and a humble soul.
Sacrificed his time so that he can bridge the gap in our(Nagaland) education system.
His demise is not only lost to our Tetso student’s but as a whole Nagaland. Principal,
Dr. P. S lorin was one of the reason I joined Tetso college. Hearing his achievements, his qualifications, his quality and sacrifices made to build our system both in education and in society has really inspired me.
Starting from today this thoughts of his physical non existence will always sadden me.
But on a bright sight his stories and his milestone will always enlightened me.
Someone once said “Though we are all a mortal being, one choose to remain immortal and that is through his good deeds, sacrifices, humbleness, which people holds on to forever”.and I’m sure every Tetso family will hold on to this fond and blissful memories.
I have little words to express but I hope this message goes through and helps his family in this time of hour.As we are all part of family, we share this hurtful and sad day together.
May the grace and his blessing be with your family.
The Good Lord be with your family as you part ways with your father.

Rest in peace to our Principal Dr. P. S Lorin, founder of Tetso college.
May his humble soul Rest In Peace.

His word is like my password which I used till today. Im still sad and this truth bring me to tears that he is no more
