Book Launch: ‘Critical Conversations in Naga Society’ by Tetso College and Heritage Publishing House


Book Title:  “Critical Conversations in Naga Society”

A book titled  ‘Critical Conversations in Naga Society’ edited by Yanbeni Yanthan and Dr. Hewasa L. Khing was officially launched today on 11th June 2022 by Geoffrey Yaden, Chief Editor, Nagaland Post as Guest of Honour at Tetso College, City Campus, Notun Bosti.

Published by Heritage Publishing House, the book is an edited volume of essays by activists, academics and scholars focussing on the social, political and economic contexts of the Nagas. The thirteen chapters have been thematised into four component parts that follow a dominant methodological, theoretical and contextual range with contributing writers such as Alexander Coupe, Brainerd Prince, Easterine Kire, Dolly Kikon, Paul Pimomo, Dr. P.S. Lorin, and Rev. Dr. Wati Aier, among others.

In the publisher’s note, Dr. Lanuzangla Tzudir, Chief Editor, Heritage Publishing House, stated that the book was a timely effort to understand Naga realities and called on to evaluate existing arguments and issues within Naga society.

Guest of Honour Geoffrey Yaden congratulated the editors on the success of the book and expressed optimism that this release would inspire and ignite a spark in the minds of intellectuals of Naga Society. Yaden also harped on the need to have these critical conversations for Naga society to grow and move forward potentially.

According to Yanbeni Yanthan, Asst. Professor, Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies, Nagaland University, the book was was conceptualised as an open access eresource book with a multi-dimensional approach that “hopes to facilitate the healing of cracks in the ongoing transformations in the Naga world and worldview” and enrich the dialogue between activists, thinkers, and writers. She also thanked all the stakeholders involved in the process.

Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal, Tetso College hoped that some of the issues covered in the essays and articles in the book would start conversations, become topics for debate, or serve as the basis for initiating discussions, conferences, seminars or even be referenced for research studies.

Dr. Khing stated that while the book is not confined to a specific target audience, the other larger intention was to add to the reading material in the society and hoped it would propel the development of a reading culture in our society. “This book is in many ways a tribute too to all those who have worked tirelessly for the Naga cause and betterment of our society and to those who continue to do so,” she concluded.

The launch was chaired by Dr. Chikhosale Thingo, IQAC Coordinator, Tetso College while the invocation was pronounced by Alfred Amri, Pastor, The Lighthouse Church. The book is available at Tetso College, City Campus, Notun Bosti and Main Campus, Sovima (+91 81198 20928).
