The NSS Unit, Tetso College attended the Virtual Edition of National Youth Festival 2022, held at Puducherry on 12th and 13th January 2022. A total of 88 student members of Tetso College along with the NSS Programme Officer attended the festival.

Under the aegis of the Electoral Literacy Club, Tetso College, students observed National Voters’ Day by virtually attending the Online District Level Function under the theme ‘Making Election Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’ organized by the district administration on 25th January 2022. Apart from messages from the Chief Election Commissioner of India, awards were presented to booth level officers and newly enrolled electors felicitated.

Shri. Rajesh Soundararajan, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur delivered a brief speech encouraging all eligible voters to actively participate in the election process while also administering the Voters’ Pledge jointly with the District Election Officer, Dimapur.

An Inter College Friendly Match was organized with Patkai Christian College by the Tetso College Sports Club on 19th January 2022. Tetso College won the Basketball match with a scoreline 43-28. However, we lost the Football match with scores of 4-1.

Congratulations to our very own Kalitoli P Yepthomi, BA 2nd Semester, English Honours for winning the 2nd edition of Nagaland Exotic Model Hunt! She also won the title of Miss Perfect 10!

Held on the theme ‘Escalate Fashion, Innovate You’, the beauty pageant was organized by the Blue Curves at Tetso Arena on 22nd January 2022.

The Department of Psychology introduced Student Counselling service on 1st February 2022 to help students cope with problems, reflect and make sense of difficult life events and find a way to move forward. Students can book an initial session with a counsellor by emailing counselling@tetsocollege.org for individual or group sessions.

The Department of Commerce & Management in collaboration with the Department of Economics conducted a ‘Review Session’ on the latest Union Budget 2022-23 on 7th February 2022. The presenters and their respective topics were:

The Department of Linguistics, Tetso College observed International Mother Language Day 2022 on 21st February 2022 with Dr. Gregory D. S. Anderson, Director of Living Tongues Institute, delivering a special online lecture for the students. In his presentation, Dr. Anderson attempted to typologize the ecologies of language endangerment in Asia by analyzing language hierarchies of different regions and their chains. A movie titled ‘The Linguist’ was also screened on the occasion.

Dr. Sahiinii L Veikho, Asst. Professor, Department of Linguistics chaired the event while Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal, delivered the welcome note. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Hima Sasidharan, Asst. Professor, Department of Linguistics.

About the Speaker: Dr. Anderson is the Director of Living Tongues Institute and specializes in research on the languages of Siberia and tribal languages of India. Prof. Anderson is also featured in the movie ‘The Linguists’. He has degrees in Linguistics from Harvard (B.A. 1989) and the University of Chicago (Ph.D. 2000), and has conducted extensive fieldwork into the languages of the Altai Sayan group and among speakers of Munda languages in India. He has also done fieldwork and research on Tibeto-Burman languages in Arunachal Pradesh, and endangered languages in Bolivia, Papua New Guinea, Chile and Oregon. He has published widely in the fields of historical linguistics, descriptive grammar, morphology, verb typology etc.

Tetso College in collaboration with Society of International Affairs (SIA) organized an Orientation Programme on 9th February, 2022 in which members from Young Diplomats from different parts of the world interacted virtually with our students. As an organization, Young Diplomats supports young people realize their dreams and potentials with a mission of shaping, sharpening and inspiring a new generation of enlightened international leaders. The session aimed to boost ties between students, faculty and Young Diplomats from across the world.

The Department of History, Tetso College in collaboration with Sacred Heart College, Vellore organized an ICSSR sponsored two-day online National Seminar on the theme ‘The Quest for Emancipation: Intellectual Traditions among the Dalits and Tribes in India’ from 10th – 11th February 2022.

The seminar began with an inaugural programme chaired by Eastrose Miachieo, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Tetso College and the participants were welcomed by Dr Hewasa L Khing, Principal of Tetso College through her inaugural address. Professor Y Chinna Rao, Professor & Chairperson, Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered the keynote address. He stressed on how Dalits and Adivasis are largely invisible in narratives and most of their information have come from missionary travel records and census reports and how the rewriting of intellectual reconstruction of Dalit identity began with Dr Ambedkar, MC Rajah who played key roles in forming a new identity for the Dalits in the late 19th century. He also spoke on the Dalit literary movement that began in the 1960s and opined that the process of reconstruction of identity of the marginalised group happened through education.

This was followed by the technical sessions. Day 1 covered two technical sessions and another two technical sessions were held on Day 2. A host of scholars and academicians from across India and abroad presented their research papers during this intellectual engagement deliberating on the topics pertaining to Dalit writers, Dalit women, intellectual traditions among the tribals, Dalit politics, Dalit protests in Tamil Nadu, analyzing historical writings of Naga society with interdisciplinary approach, politics of knowing and not knowing Northeast India and many more.
The seminar ended with a valedictory session where the participants shared their experiences and gave feedback. Dr Tatongkala, Convenor of the seminar closed the seminar with the closing remarks and distribution of certificates to the participants.

Gwanilo Khing, Pastor Rengma Baptist Church Sovima led the prayer dedication on 10th February 2022 for inauguration of Runyi Residences – Tetso College’s new staff quarter with 1 bhk, 2 bhk and 4 bhk apartment blocks with semi furnished facilities, inverter back up and broadband internet.

Tetso Mountaineering Club screened a mountaineering movie named ‘The Climbers’ on 15th February 2022. The movie was part of a training program designed for the climbing team members.

24 Senior Wing cadets from Tetso College attended the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) 53 at National Institute of Technology, Nagaland from 9th – 13th February 2022. Sergeant Mhasirienuo Phewhuo, BA 4th Semester (Sociology Honours) bagged the second position in Drill.

Tetso College IQAC in collaboration with The Patent Office Kolkata, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India organized an Awareness Programme on Intellectual Property Rights as a part of the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM), an initiative of the Government’s “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, a mission that aims to inculcate the spirit of creativity and innovation amongst the students on 15th February 2022.

Tetso College in collaboration with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) organized a “Free Youth Employability Training program (Online)” on 25th February 2022.

The program supported the youth by guiding them for internal (in TCS) and external opportunities for their jobs. The trainees received a digital certificate of participation and completion from TCS which stands as a testimony and accreditation of their employability prospects in the corporate world.

Tetso College is happy to announce its collaboration with CoRSAL, University of North Texas!

The aim of this collaboration is to support students and local scholars to archive and publish Naga oral traditions using language documentation methods.

CoRSAL (Computational Resources for South Asian Languages), University of North Texas, engages in research at the intersection of language documentation, description, and information science. And the team supports archiving of audio, video, and text on the under-resourced languages of South Asia.

Under this collaboration a new project titled ‘Naga Languages database’ will be initiated by the Linguistics department to support community members in their community literacy development programmes.

An Awareness Campaign was conducted by the District Aids Prevention And Control Unit (DAPCU), in support with National Aids Control Organization, in Tetso College, to spread the awareness of HIV/TB prevention and how to reduce the stigma and discrimination among the people living with HIV/AIDS and TB on 17th February 2022.

Mrs Mecievinuo, Mr Orenthung from DAPCU and Dr Benchillo from District TB Centre, were the resource persons for the event. The team also encouraged the importance of blood donation and availability of blood donors in the society. A total of 50 RRC members were present in the program, accompanied by two RRC nodal officers.

The Department of Linguistics, Tetso College held a Career Counseling session for the Higher Secondary Students on 18th February 2022 in the Auditorium.

With the rapid changes in technology and in the ways in which the world connects, new fields of study are emerging everyday, bringing up a plethora of new opportunities. This career counselling event introduced students to one such new field called Linguistics, and the kinds of exciting new career prospects this field offers. Tetso College offers a BA Linguistics (Honours) course to train interested students, in order to start their career in Linguistics.

Dr. Hima Sasidharan, Asst. Professor, Department of Linguistics, explained why a degree in linguistics can be of great value in the pursuit of careers in communication, computer languages, voice analysis research, education, etc.

The Tetso Sports Club organised a 20-20 cricket match between the College Staff and the students at Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium on 19th February 2022. Staff won the toss and decided to field first. Students scored 56 scores and all out. Staff with their amazing performance reached the target with 12.5 overs to spare and won the match by 9 wickets.

To commemorate World Social Justice Day, the Department of Political Science organized a Roundtable Symposium on the topic ‘Social Justice: Politics, Philosophy and Law’ on 21st February, 2022.

The panelists were Sarup Sinha (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science), Dr. Aniruddha Babar (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science), Lerete U Khutsoh (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science), Tokato K Sumi (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science), Lhikhwetso Kapfo (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science), Lhingneiching Teresa Haokip (Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science) and Gurumayum Melody Sharma (Asst. Professor, Department of Psychology).

Various topics such as mental health, tribalism, equity, physical & religious discrimination were presented, however the need to raise a voice against social injustice and to bring the various communities together was collectively echoed by the panelists.

PG Virtual Graduation Ceremony – Tetso College

Tetso College held its first Post-Graduate (PG) Graduation Ceremony in an online mode for the first PG batch of Tetso, Class of 2019, on the 22nd February 2022 with Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir, Proprietor & Chief Editor of Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur gracing the occasion as Commencement Speaker.
The event was chaired by Dr. Aniruddha Babar, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Tetso College. Dr. Nouzhienino Peseyie, Assistant Professor of Psychology graced the event with a prayer followed by a melodious song by Mhasirieno Pewhuo of BA 4th Semester.
Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal, Tetso College, who delivered the keynote address, wished the students for greater excellence in their future endeavors. She encouraged the students to stand firm to the truest motto of the college that is to ‘Strive For Excellence.’
On behalf of the graduating batch, Sneha Gupta of Tetso College, MA English (2019) who secured the Gold Medalist (based on CGPA) under Nagaland University shared her gratitude and regards based on the experiences she had while at the College.
The commencement speaker Dr. Lanusangla Tzudir, Proprietor & Chief Editor of Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur, wished the students for their completion of their course, that they are now a step ahead in achieving their goals in life. She particularly mentioned the importance of one’s culture and identity, which students should look forward to preserving one’s culture and identity, both in academic measure as well as pragmatic. One must be open to the paradigm shift in this time of adversity and drastic change as the world undergoes, acting as a scaffold to each other’s efforts and recognizing each other’s works, added the speaker.
Meanwhile, a video congratulating all 38 students from the Departments of English and Political Science of the graduating batch was also showcased.
The concluding remarks were given by Dr. Rosy Tep. Asst. Dean, School of English and Political Studies who thanked all the attendees and participants for being a part of the programme. She wished every graduate the best wishes for their future endeavors.

A career counselling session was conducted by Career Launcher Dimapur for higher secondary students today. The resource speaker Aphune Kezo, Career Counsellor for Career Launcher deliberated on entrance examinations such as CU-CET and courses related to law and management.

Tetso College was declared the overall runner up of COMMVANZA 2022 – the annual inter-collegiate commerce fest organized by the Department of Commerce, Unity College, Dimapur held on 25th February 2022.

Congratulations to J Hito Sumi & Mongsentong (BCom 6th Semester) and Rajdeep Saha (BCom 6th Semester) for securing second position in The Entrepreneur and Group Discussion respectively.
