Speech on behalf of Freshers by Ms. Yavisau Ekaterina Sekhose of MA 1st Semester (Eng):
“Do not stress about what you haven’t done in the past but look forward to what you can do in the present for a better Future “.
A very good afternoon to you all.
Respected Chairperson, our special guest Shri Temjen Imna Along the. hon ‘ble Minister of Higher and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Govt of Nagaland, the Principal, Director. Vice Principal, Dean, Teaching and Non-teaching faculties, Invites and all my dear friends.
It is indeed an honor for me to stand before you all and deliver a speech on behalf of the freshers on this auspicious day.
On their first day of college we set our foot into this institution for the very first time, nervous yet excited and with many questions in mind. There were times when we questioned ourselves “Did I make the right decision? “,”Will I meet the right people here?”,”Will I be able to cope with the tasks given to me ?” and so forth.
However within a short time, we have positive answers to all those questions, owing to those who helped us adjust to the new environment and gave us guidance when we needed it most.
Today , we the freshers can proudly say that we are more than privileged to be a part of Tetso college which has proved itself to be one of the best colleges in Nagaland. Along with a pleasant environment and a good infrastructure, Tetso college has some of the most dynamic, well trained and qualified professors who are more than willing to go an extra mile just to see their students shine in life.
A sticking feature of the institution is it’s focus on the all round development of an individual. While helping one cope with the syllabus, it is made sure that he or she is able to develop the right skills and attitude which are necessary in order to tackle the challenges that life has to offer. Therefore, as I have mentioned earlier, we the freshers are privileged to be a part of the Tetso family.
As we begin our journey together in this institution, let us all work hard from the very beginning. As the saying goes “Well begun is half Done”, so put hard work first and the rest will follow.
Another point on which I want to stress is that, each one of us are born with different talents, interests and abilities. Which is why it is often said ” In every classroom sits a great mathematician, a great physician, a great musician, a great actor, artist, lawyer and you name it.. Each one having the ability to bring a positive impact through their respective fields. ”
Likewise all of us too have the ability to bring positive changes and impacts in and around our society through our respective fields.
Therefore I urge everyone present here today, to work on your interests and develop your skills and talents when you have the time and opportunity to do so.
To conclude, let us all strive towards excellence and try to lift the name of the college just as our seniors did, not forgetting to have a fruitful journey together and make the best of memories.
Thank you all. Enjoy the rest of the program .

S. Lorin, And President of the PCAN, Members of the press
And last but not least and the reason we are all here this afternoon, our dear Freshers!
Let’s give them a hand!
In the next two or three years I believe that each of you will contribute towards Tetso College in amazing ways as we all learn and grow together. Unfortunately, though, I can’t tell you what to expect because the truth of the matter is, College life is different for each and every individual. For some of you Tetso College will be the best college in the world, for some of you it could be the worst place you have ever been. That’s one of the beauty’s of college life because college will force you to experience new things whether you like it or not or whether you are ready or not. As crude as it may sound, the fact is, the person you are sitting next to right now may not be with you as you graduate. Because college is not easy.
Speaking of college life… Tetso College is not known for being easy though, you will always have class work, assignments and maybe struggle fulfil attendance criteria’s and other activities. Sometimes it could be tough to balance everything but please remember that it is OK to be challenged, it is OK to ask for help and believe it or not it is also OK to make mistakes… hopefully not fail. But the truth is, everyone needs second chances, when we say our college mission is to empower people towards lifelong excellence, it doesn’t mean you are the best yet but it means you will get there if you always strive for excellence.
Tetso College provides you some of the most robust online resources from the college mobile app, numerous online resources, we have awarded 34 lakhs worth of scholarships this year to over 60 students, star faculty, sports facilities of every type and some of the best classmates you will get in your entire life. Though we have a history of consistently securing University ranks every year, none of you are under pressure to simply secure that rank. Instead, we encourage you to come out of your comfort zone because education is more than just marks… it’s also about having an open mind and forming connections and friends.
Who knows some of you might even find your future wife or husband here…. I recently became a father and when we went looking for a Pediatrician, I bumped into Dr. Apong who happened to be my senior in school and maybe because of this connection I felt like he was the best pediatrician ever. His explanation was that good and since baby’s cant talk, you need a doctor who can explain what the baby is trying to saying. When I went to Chennai, I went to visit a classmate who opened a fast food there and found out he had also completed his PhD from Madras, and maybe because he was my classmate, but I felt he was the best food in Chennai. which brings me to another senior of Mine from school sitting with us right now Shri Shri Temjen Imna Along… don’t be surprised if I tell people he is the best Minister of Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs ever because of that connection. We are meeting after 20+ years which means we are both quite young.
College will define you and whether you like it or not the tag of Tetso College can either be a source of pride for you or shame. It is up to you make the world look at you and be inspired by how you conduct yourself, how you respect your uniform and how you interact with society.
With all of this being said, looking at our state, I believe Nagaland has more than enough educated people, we also actually seem to have more than enough rich people and maybe many religious people as well. But maybe what we don’t have are enough ethical and moral people. I encourage you to take on the responsibility to fulfil our colleges vision to create a positive impact in the world. Not necessarily the global world per se but to make positive contributions in your personal world, your family, community and society.
Mohhammed Ali said “If you look at the world in the same way when you’re 50 that you did when you were 20, then you wasted 30 years” …I am not 50 ok… and neither are all of you freshers but by the end of three years you will be a different person – the type of person you become though rests with you. I wish you all best in your college life. Good luck to all of you Tetso Warriors. Thank you
