Abstract: Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient (EQ) is the ability to understand, manage and regulate one’s own emotion as well as others in a healthy way. It helps in relieving stress, effective communication and defusing conflict. It is a scientific fact that emotion precedes thought. When emotions run high, they can change our brain function which can diminish our cognitive abilities, impair decision making power and interpersonal skills. Being able to be in control and navigate our emotions helps us to be more successful both in personal and professional lives. EQ is a modern-day concept and a person with high emotional intelligence is a well sought-after trait in the present-day workforce.
