Critical theory is at a crucial juncture; it has become apparent that it must expand its discursive vocabulary as well its engagement with the contemporary. In the face of the erosion of interest in theorizing as a first critical step in understanding the world, the trajectory of critical theory and praxis is at a crossroads. This provenant stance is marked by efforts to link a long philosophical and critical discourse to the current social, political and cultural climate including the pandemic crisis which is beginning to be understood in an interdisciplinary fashion. Therefore, this is an opportunity for critical theory to find a strong footing in order to re-think these emerging contestations.

Thus, this Five Day Faculty Development Programme will attempt to examine the trajectories of critical theory in the contemporary, as well as in its many contexts.

The focus and objectives of this Faculty Development Programme would be (although not limited to):

  • The ways in which critical theory can be conceived within different social and political contexts.

  • The evolution of critical theory in the humanities and social sciences and its relevance in the contemporary.

  • The processes of theorizing and re-thinking in the field of humanities and social sciences.

  • The ways in which critical theory engages with the cultural, social or political shifts in the diversity of different societies.

  • Literary, artistic and academic resonances incorporating these social and political movements within the context of critical theory.

  • The overall aim of this Faculty Development Programme is to allow interdisciplinary engagement, discussions and debates between faculty members of different departments so as to reinvigorate the overall Humanities and Social Sciences framework which is rich with potential for cross-fertilization of ideas.

  • This exercise in interdisciplinarity hopes to spark off new collaborations between researchers and academics, especially in the Naga context.
