Ecological Concerns in the writings of Easterine Kire

Ecocriticism is the literary theory which studies the relationship between literature and the environment. In the present era, the theory has gained attention due to the degrading status of Nature. The Modern Industrial development has led to the exploitation of nature for the ever growing human needs. Similarly, women has been dominated and exploited through time along with nature, giving birth to its branch called Ecofeminism. Thus, nature and women are regarded as the agents of life but are exploited and dominated in all possible ways. Easterine Kire is such a writer who portrays nature and women together in her works. Nature is a familiar presence and plays an important role in sharpening the spirit of the protagonists. In her works, When the River Sleeps (2014), Son of the Thundercloud (2016) and Sky is my Father: A Naga Village Remembered (2018), she presents her concern for the preservation of the ecosystem in a world dominated by the greed of man to extend or mark their territory wherever they step into. It is therefore, an attempt to redirect the mind of the readers towards the value of nature and take into account her writings as an awareness novel
