“Modernity as Salvation”

‘Modernity as Salvation’ is a hypothesis originally envisioned to think through the cultural and political phenomena engendered by the Dalit Movement. It has been inspired first and foremost by the person and writings of B.R. Ambedkar who unites both modernization and concerns for salvation in a unique way. The thesis brings ‘salvation’ full circle: from Christian salvation that inspired a revolutionary shift in the philosophy of history over the secularization and normalization of progress as necessarily ‘good’ in modernity to the reintroduction of concerns for (secular) salvation by subaltern groups appropriating modernity and its underlying narratives of progress as a tool or framework.
