(With special reference to Covid-19 Pandemic)

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges both for individuals and the society. It had brutally uncovered the greatest battle of our generation. Hence, Collaboration, sharing knowledge and acts of kindness has become more important now than ever before. Being in the Discipline of Sociology which deals solely with society, we would like to contribute to the society with this discourse on different current social phenomena and its impact on society.

Mental Health: Our ever growing society is becoming more and more complicated as time passes by. The wants of the people are increasing, their relationships are becoming complicated, competition is rising to another level which is putting a lot of pressure on the individuals, but above all of these problems is the global pandemic- The Covid-19.  It has drastically affected the mental health of the people, the present generation have never faced any such pandemic before in their life and have never imagined of any such happenings. Studies found that socialising plays a vital role in developing a healthy mind and helps people to fight depression, however since we are all locked up in our own houses, this natural remedy is less effective. Moreover, the fear of getting infected with corona, the stress of losing the job, the trouble of earning bread and butter for the family and so many other stresses, tensions and concerns are having a huge impact on the mental health of the people. There are also very high chances of people suffering from trauma post covid-19. During such time, the spread of knowledge on mental health plays a crucial role in saving the people from becoming a victim of mental illness.

When there are no worthy changes in economic and institutional settings, the demographic factors then play an important role in the issue of unemployment. The present situation of unemployment, especially the educated people of a country has the gap of finding valuable and available jobs and educational organisation. Unemployment problem is faced by all the countries across the globe. Government is rightly concerned about creating jobs for youth and rising levels of youth unemployment because of not only direct economic costs but also social issues related problems like poverty, drugs, labour force, etc. The paper also suggests some points to overcome this current situation of unemployment prevailing in India.

Immigration: A Long walk of immigrants to their native homeland. Millions of Indian migrant workers had to deal with multiple hardships during the Covid-19 Pandemic. In response, the Central Government and the State Government took various measures to help them. Migrant workers majorly comprises daily wage labourers working on the manufacturing and construction industries. They are mostly from rural areas but live in cities to work throughout the year. Many have no savings and lived in factory dormitories, which were shut down due to lockdown. They have not only lost their meagre income but at high risk, face starvation, and contract Covid-19 as well. Thus major recognition should be given to migrant workers to tackle their problems.

Impact of social media: Social media is rapidly changing the communication setting of today’s social world. The emergent of social media is significantly influencing the academic life of students. Institutions and academics are continually trying with social media technologies hoping to excite critical thinking skills, collaboration, and knowledge construction. Today social media has been accepted by high institutions making it a platform where students connect with their instructors, fellow students and other higher authorities across the board.
